Experience

ffinlo Costain - photo by Tim James - http://www.graygallery.co.ukffinlo has media campaigning, journalistic and design experience from ten years of working at the sharp end of British non-governmental and political life.

He currently writes regularly for most Isle of Man media outlets, including regular food, farming and eco-columns for Manx Tails, Money Media, Horizons, and for Manx Radio.

The Manx Food Show, on Manx Radio, recently finished its second series, and ffinlo continues to make regular ecological documentaries for the station. His recent Perspective Climate Change Special was short listed for Environmental Programme of the Year at this year's New York Radio Awards, alongside the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, United Nations Radio, and the Washington World Asian Network.

February 2006 to April 2007:

Most recently ffinlo worked as general secretary of the Manx National Farmers' Union. In this role he generated weekly media opportunities to promote the importance of the Isle of Man's agriculture and food.

He designed and managed two websites; ran a coalition food and farming awareness campaign; wrote regularly for all Mannin Media publications; wrote for Isle of Man Newspapers, and appeared regularly on each of the three Island radio stations.

June 2005 to February 2006:

ffinlo spent time in Fes, Morocco, and the Isle of Man, writing a children's novel and a theatre script (currently in pre-production in London).

July 2001 to June 2005:

ffinlo was the first UK campaign coordinator of the new international charity Adopt-A-Minefield. He designed the AAM-UK brand and website, and managed much of the media operation (UK and global) across that period.

During that time he travelled to many landmine affected areas acquiring stories and images to assist with fundraising to clear landmines and help landmine survivors.

He worked closely with the charity's founding patrons, Heather Mills McCartney and Paul McCartney, and managed media events ranging from indoor junkets to open air events with helicopters and explosions. Across this period he also ran other media events featuring Angelina Jolie, Twiggy, and David Knopfler, amongst many others.

Summer 2003 to May 2005 (concurrent with the above):

ffinlo was the Labour parliamentary candidate for North East Cambridgeshire. He managed the constituency media operation and designed all election materials - from flyers to websites. In the last eighteen months of the campaign he generated around 400 press mentions.

August 1999 to June 2001:

ffinlo was the national party manager for the Green Party of England and Wales. This role included responsibility for the national media office, design and production of all printed materials. He was in regular contact with all the major UK networks.

Testimonial from Richard Bingley, Labour party communications:

"ffinlo has clearly demonstrated to me huge strengths in both verbal and written communication skills and an ability to ingest copious amounts of information quickly, draw from it the headline points, and present these in an eloquent and attention-grabbing manner. He is also driven by results.

"Finally, ffinlo is one of the most effective campaigners I know because he sticks clearly to the advance of irrefutable and relevant facts, rather than pitching emotional polemics and relying hopelessly for an agnostic's conversion."
