PCT Questionnaire
Model responses from Save Doddington Hospital Campaign

Question 1.

On page 6 of the Consultation document we have listed the criteria the PCT has used to consider the options for health services in the South Fenland area. Do you think the PCT has chosen the right criteria?

Answer: Yes

Question 2.

Do you agree with the proposal to develop a Community Diagnostic and Treatment Centre?

Answer: A CD&T centre sounds good in theory, but you do not properly explain what services would be available in this centre. It is important to ensure that we have a minor injuries unit, in-patient services, and mental health services at Doddington Hospital

Question 3.

Which location, for the Community Diagnostic and Treatment Centre, would provide the best access for people living in March, Chatteris and surrounding villages?

Answer: Doddington Hospital,
Comments: But the PCT must work with local public transport service providers to ensure good bus services to Doddington.

Question 4.

Where do you live?

Answer: As applicable

Question 5.

If you had a Minor Injuries service in this area would you use it, if needed?

Answer: Yes (A Minor Injuries unit is very similar to a Casualty unit. It doesn’t provide every service a Casualty would, but has good X-ray facilities and can cope with anything up to a serious break).

Question 6.

The PCT is committed to providing as many services as possible locally where it is safe and efficient to do so. Where we can not deliver local services, please indicate where you prefer to receive inpatient care.

Answer: Other
All in-patient care except that associated with major operations should be provided at Doddington Hospital. (Please do not tick any of the boxes because it is likely that the PCT will use answers to this leading question to justify closing in-patient facilities at Doddington. They will say that x% of those that responded wanted in-patient services moved to Wisbech, Ely, Peterborough or Hinchingbrooke.)

Question 7.

Which services do you think are most important to provide locally? Please indicate the 6 most important by numbering them 1-6 in the boxes (1 most important, 6 less important)

Answers:
(Some of these services could be provided in or around GP surgeries more easily than others, given the right investment – this is why chronic disease management is marked with an X. We feel that dental services are best provided in dental surgeries within centres of population - but that NHS investment is needed so that everyone is able to find a local NHS dentist.)

Minor Injuries Unit --- 1
Out-patient & Diagnostic services --- 5
Chronic Disease management --- X
Children’s services --- 4
NHS Dentistry --- X
Podiatry – foot care --- 6
Rehabilitation and intermediate care services --- 2    (in patient beds)
Palliative Care services --- 3

Question 8.

I have read the Consultation document and would like to make the following comments:

I do not wish to see any of the land on the Doddington Hospital site sold off. I believe it is essential to retain our greatest assets for future generations, even if we do not wish to use all of it now ourselves.

To ensure equal access to care we believe that the maintenance of Doddington Hospital on its current site, in a central South Fenland location is essential.

In order to ensure that the PCT is best able to work constructively to develop GP surgeries in South Fenland it will be necessary for the PCT to look honestly at the population growth in Fenland.

In-patient beds are essential to those recovering from more serious operations so they can be moved closer to home at the earliest opportunity to ease the effort of long travel over sustained periods for family and loved ones of patients.
